What is cursive lower case q?

Cursive lower case q looks quite different from its printed counterpart. In cursive, the letter q has a loop that extends downward towards the baseline before curving back up to create the letter's tail. When connecting to other letters, the tail of the q is usually looped over the preceding letter. In some styles of cursive, the loop of the q can be quite elaborate, while in others it is simpler. Due to its distinctive shape, cursive lower case q is often a letter that children struggle with when first learning cursive writing.
